Translating Global Goals for Young Learners
Many schools struggle with teaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) because the concepts feel too abstract for primary school students.
How do you teach a 10-year-old to solve global crises? At HKUGA Primary School, we moved away from the chalkboard. We turned the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into a high-stakes digital adventure for 59 young “Futurepreneurs.” We bridge the gap between “knowing” the SDGs and “understanding” the real-world opportunities and challenges they present.

The Strategic Approach: Gamified Futurepreneurship
Digital Immersion We deployed the SusSpace app to transform abstract social dilemmas into interactive missions.
- Narrative Learning: Students entered a gamified world where their choices affected a virtual ecosystem.
- Collaboration over Competition: By negotiating team challenges, students practiced the “soft skills” of sustainability.
- The “Skill Card” System: We replaced traditional grading with electronic rewards that triggered deep self-reflection.
Instead of giving children answers, give them the tools to change the world

From Awareness to Mastery
From October 2025 to January 2026, 59 students across two classes embarked on this digital journey.
The most moving moment: when participants shift from asking ‘What can I do?’ to ‘What can we do together?
Students used the app to navigate simulated sustainability crises, recording their interactions and tracking their progress toward becoming “Futurepreneurs”. This was not symbolic participation; it was practiced sustainability where children experienced what collective action feels like. By gamifying the curriculum, HKUGA is positioning its students as the primary architects of a greener Hong Kong.
